Since there are several of you on my LJ friends who don't know one another, and ought to...

Apologies to anybody I've left out (it means I couldn't think of a connection to somebody you didn't already know), double apologies to anybody I've misrepresented here (unless it was Ceredwyn or Reynardo, in which case I probably did it on purpose.)

frou_frou and harliquinn, both of you are talented artists (well, I've not seen much of frou_frou's work, but what I have has been great.) I'd point people at silverblue's work but I think everybody here has already seen it. While we're at it, verylisa does some very nifty LJ usericons.

darkrosetiger, msmanna, and verylisa all write in a particular category of fanfic (specialising in Harry Potter, Blake's Seven, and vampire hobbit SMS snippets respectively, but covering a range of stuff.)

Wolves Glen Pub rollcall: silverblue, cerebrate, deor, malada, panacea1, msmanna, peglegpete, and very occasionally reynardo.

Robert Jordan: cerebrate, turnberryknkn, silmaril, peglegpete.

Devilbunnies and/or foofy clothes: almost everybody.

Sims torturers: darkrosetiger, silverblue, msmanna, verylisa (I think?), reynardo.

(grin) To add to the list, once upon a lifetime --actually, more recently than I've been significantly active on rec.arts.sf.written.robert-jordan-- I was a Wolves Glen Pubber. In fact, from the Pub comes my username, per my userinfo page. :-)

I can't torture my Sims any more.

I tried once. Had a house with four Sims, and one of them annoyed me. So I built a room for him on one side of the house, with a window into the rest of the house. Then I took away the only door to the room.

He took several days to die. He cried, and pissed himself, and waved pathetically at me. He seemed to be saying hey, I think you've forgotten I'm here ... please help me ... please. He could see the other three Sims through the window, going about their happy lives. They didn't seem to miss him at all.

By the time he died, I felt like a murderer. Kept telling myself it was insane to feel that way. He wasn't actually a person. Just a collection of pixels and subroutines. Not self-aware. Not intelligent. Not real.

Now I am very nice to all my Sims. They have the nicest things I can afford to buy them, and I encourage them to be friendly and sweet to one another, to work and study hard, to take good care of their pets, to clean up after themselves.

They're not real. I know this. I just can't be deliberately mean to them any more.

I never torture my sims.

Okay, I queue actions for them from the moment they wake up until they go to sleep, and I force them to socialise until they make friends with people they hate (and occasionally until they fall asleep on the floor because I cut it too fine to get them into bed), and I make them study to improve their stats and grades until they flat out refuse to do another minute, and in the very few moments they have left I make them happy in the most time-efficient manner possible, preferably in a way that also generates money for the household...

But I swear that it's All For Their Own Good.

Oh gods, that's so familiar. Except that I'll allow them to be happy in any way that is also productive, such as raising stats or building relationship points with others.

Ah, yes. "Okay, you get to watch huge-screen TV for five seconds before work."

Every so often I'm so overcome by guilt that I have to use a money cheat so my Sims can spend some quality time with one another. (Gnoming is a great earner and time-flexible, but selling them is a real pain.)

*noddle* I have no problem setting up all the paraphernalia of torture, but when it comes to actually doing it, I'm such a wuss.

Which is probably why I never did end up using that Tipper Gore skin.

I think I see what you mean then by setting up the equipment but not using it, I mean I'd hate to wake up and discover I was Tipper Gore.


Come to think of it, Tipper Gore would probably be petrified to wake up one morning and discover I was her as well. :)

Sim Freddie Mercury

Well, I had Freddie Mercury and Blofeld as roommates. I think Freddie isn't happy with the fact that he's gay, yet I have had him sleep with every single adult female character in the Sim village, in rotation, every other day. But, on the other hand, Blofeld is enjoying it pretty well!
