Jan. 23rd, 2003 03:53 pmSeveral things which, in my opinion, are vastly underrated.
AUTHOR: Robert Sheckley. Other sci-fi authors take you to worlds where the laws of physics are different - or perhaps biology, or chemistry.
Sheckley writes about worlds where the laws of logic work differently. About the absurdities that arise from man's attempts to impose order on the universe.
"Spontaneity is the key to romance. We have graphs to prove it."
MOVIE: 'Kind Hearts and Coronets'. Black comedy from Ealing Studios. A young man, whose mother was cast out of her noble family for marrying an Italian singer, aspires to become the Duke of Chelfont nonetheless. So he kills off the other heirs one by one (all of them played by Alec Guinness) in a charmingly English understated sort of way.
MUSICIAN: Gary Numan. Not just his Tubeway Army days, either; listen to 'Sacrifice', or 'Pure', or 'Exile' some time.
