Summertime again: things get more exciting
Dec. 6th, 2002 10:54 amLast night around 8 pm one of the neighbours came over to let us know the fires had reached the other side of Wentworth Falls, and to start packing our valuables. Standing in the street outside our home, most of the sky in that direction was a grey-red colour; we packed what we could, and filled buckets. We got word that one house here had been destroyed; shortly afterwards, unexpected rain came, enough to provide some relief but not to completely alleviate the threat.
About 9 pm, the power went out - it's been doing that on and off for several days now - and this time it stayed off for most of the night. Gillian and I played a couple of games of Munchkin by candlelight, then turned in.
A couple of stops past Wentworth Falls, both the railway lines and the highway have been cut by fires. So far the lines down to Sydney are clear (as long as there's power) but I won't be going in to work today; things might change in a hurry.
On with the thesis, then...
