Apparently I do have a convict ancestor, after all, on my mother's side... and he's a Shameful Secret!

Not because he was a convict, but because he was a Protestant... and English, at that. O NOES!

My grandma had two sayings on this matter;

"If you look far enough back in anybody's family tree, you'll always find a rope",

and

"No matter how tall your granddaddy was, you have to do your own growing".
