what a load of bollocks. A woman (or anyone) would have to have very low self esteem to fall for such crap - it irks me that vulnerable people often attract low lifes who'll play on their psyche so I just hope that someone who finds themselves on the receiving end of such manipulative game playing wises up quickly and scarpers.
I suspect that technique would have me holding the damn door open, and possibly slamming it on the jerk in question's limbs. Crude attempts to manipulate have never gone down well with me...
I can't believe it took six comments to get here, because I was flashing back to Kill Bill v.1 as I was reading the page, and I cannot even watch that scene without looking away.
No, no---I mean, the scene is horribly unpleasant, but I was flashing back to it when I was reading that gutterscraping piece of "advice", not when reading your note, and flashing back to it with the intent of trying it on whoever wrote that.
(The scene in question: Woman seriously maims, possibly kills, her rapist with judicious application of door. I don't know if it really ends in death because, as I said, I've never been able to actually watch the scene.)
I am willing to say that I would have - and HAVE - fallen for similar in the past. Not sexually, but given from previous employers, a similar sort of 'Yay, we hired you, you're awesome, now let's chat about...' It can take years to leave that sort of situation. People are designed to be social.
However, friends are invaluable in this context in helping the person involved realise what's going on. Without Brandt, I would have stayed stuck. With Brandt, I made the fuckers regret ever having done that, to the tune of $30K and then some.
Punching (mentally or not) is definitely required, but it's rarely the victim who does it. At least now I cut this stuff down the moment I see it, and it's all due to people like Brandt - and you - who helped me.
Yeah, I can totally see something like this (done more eloquently than the example) working on me... I don't think anyone's actually tried it, but I'm not sure I'd *know* unless someone external pointed it out. v.v

Date: 2008-05-13 09:23 am (UTC)I would get over it. I am not that fucking codependent, also I'm sorry your freind died but your whole door thing is increadiably self centered.

Date: 2008-05-13 02:51 pm (UTC)I haven't seen Kill Bill, so I don't know the reference, but I apologise if my comment reminds you of something horribly unpleasant.
