Perfidious spaniels

Conversation with Dog-Or the Wonder Spaniel, last week:

DOG-OR: I need to go out.
ME: Murfle. Am in bed. Is warm.
DOG-OR: *scratches at door* I need to go out. By the way, I haven't peed since last night.
ME: Oh, okay. *gets out of lovely warm bed to go open the door*
DOG-OR: Sucker! *jumps onto bed and grabs my spot*

I've tried to explain to him that a few thousand years back, his ancestors slept outside ALL THROUGH THE WINTER, and there were no quilts or electric blankets, not even for the humans. I don't think he believes me.

I'll bet you walked to school, and then back home, too. In the snow. Uphill. Both ways. While fending off dinosaurs.

I remember our first remote-control television. It was voice-activated. Dad would say something like, "scascot, put it on channel 3" or "scascot, turn the volume up" - and it would happen. Amazing.
