Despite onset of annoying throat crud, had a nice weekend. I didn't spend any of it in coaches or airports, and Rey came to visit :-)

My father and stepmother were away for the weekend, so we took advantage of this to use their kitchen, which has three advantages over the share-house one:

(1) It's bigger.
(2) No need to work around housemates.
(3) Can respond to obnoxiously hot weather by [REDACTED FOR YOUR MENTAL COMFORT] without upsetting housemates.

Nom nom curry for dinner, nom nom two weeks' worth of sammiches made and in the freezer.

Then today we did more shopping and caught up with [livejournal.com profile] quatranoctal. Visited the Kingston markets (sadly, didn't make any progress on the Christmas list), then past Mind Games*, and had just enough time before Rey's bus to make a trip out to the National Dinosaur Museum. Which could do with some editing on its display notes, and I'm not entirely sure why the model pterosaur had been upholstered in leopard-print fake fur, but otherwise it was pretty neat. Lots of big bones and savage beasties, and I could not help but take a geeky sort of pride in watching Rey and the shop attendant talking avidly about rocks. (I was sad to hear her mention that they'd gotten complaints from creationists about some of the content, but at least Australian museums don't as yet seem to feel obliged to appease that crowd.)

Now, I think, bedtime.

*And by 'past' I mean 'through'. But you knew that.

If I remember correctly, the leopard-print fur was theorised to be for "mating display".

I think that was a comment on a dinosaur with an oddly-shaped head, in the same area but not the pterosaur.

*And Much Spanking Ensued*

No, don't look at me like that. Reynardo told me everything.

If that includes wandering around in various states of undress, you have the wrong housemates.

The museums will have *me* to appease if they make the slightest twitch towards creationsists, and I am like a meataxe.
