Looks like reason has prevailed on the whole interests-deletion thing. I think it says good things about LJ's management that they were willing to say "we made a mistake and will remedy it" rather than digging the hole deeper, and their new stance looks pretty reasonable to me. So, yay them!

While it's good they'll undo some of the crap, I'm still very concerned about the implications of the policy "changes" that appear to be going on. I burble about it on the thread - I hope it was just a case of him sticking his foot in his mouth, but I would like to see some assurances that they won't pursue that particular trend.

I'd be happier if it were a mistake by Abuse. However, apparently the suspension decision was forced on Abuse, against their vociferous protests, by the very guy who wrote that 'apology' and tried to shift all the blame onto Abuse making mistakes and miscommunicating. I hope he's learned his lesson, but I have my doubts. I fear that, like with the ever-encroaching adverts, Six Apart management will simply start nibbling away at the definition of acceptable content on LJ until they get where they want to be.

From that post it looks like the fanfic people may still be told to GTFO, since the things they are apologising for are the survivors and the literature discussion, not the fiction.

On the other hand I'm not going to be up in arms if a group devoted entirely to writing rapefic is told to please take it elsewhere, especially if they are given a dump of their posts to take with them.
