Enough people getting upset about it to generate press, and thus "free publicity" that will probably result in the entire run being bought out as "collector's items"?
I don't fuckin' know. I don't know why the big comic companies do anything anymore. Evidently somebody in the upper levels is either brutally retarded, or actually hates comic books and everybody who works for them and wants the whole industry to go down in a massive firestorm. Or both.
The superior quality and workmanship of those statue-things isn't enough... now they have to make them so incredibly classy that any fan would be proud to display them! I'll put it to ya this way - a comic nerd who has that figure prominently shown amongst his fannish trophies will never, ever get any closer to getting laid than staring at the statue while masturbating.
Which means he has all the more reason (and disposable income) to buy whatever abomination they put out next o.O
Sadly, I don't think this stuff needs publicity to sell well; if the comments on Sideshow's site are anything to go buy, there are plenty of droolmonsters who'll snap it up.

Too right. And what gets me is those comic nerds would buy the statue anyway - cute chickie (in any pose), and collecting-pleasure would do it for them. And by having a more innocuous pose, they wouldn't be automatically eliminating the geeky chick contingent, those who like feisty female characters, and those who like anything Spidey-related.
I dunno, maybe the number of skeeves would outweigh the number of other potentially-interested types... but I actually doubt it.
