It's stuuuuck...
Aug. 14th, 2002 10:02 pmThere's a song the Inkspots did. It begins with the same intro as every other song of theirs (and I mean the SAME intro - sometimes they do it in a different key, but it's always the same.) It shows up in the 'Fallout' intro, playing in a ruined city on a broken record, and it captures the bittersweet loneliness of that game perfectly. I replayed Fallout a week ago, and now I can't get it out of my head...
Maybe
You'll think of me
When you are all alone
Maybe the one who is waiting for you
Will prove untrue - then what will you do?
Maybe you'll sit and sigh
Wishing that I were near
Then maybe you'll ask me to come back again
And maybe I'll say - maybe.
Maybe you'll beg of me
When you are lost, alone
Maybe the one who is waiting for you
Will prove untrue - then what will I do?
Maybe you'll sit and sigh
Wishing that I were near - then,
Maybe you'll ask me to come back again
And maybe I'll say - maybe.
Maybe
You'll think of me
When you are all alone
Maybe the one who is waiting for you
Will prove untrue - then what will you do?
Maybe you'll sit and sigh
Wishing that I were near
Then maybe you'll ask me to come back again
And maybe I'll say - maybe.
Maybe you'll beg of me
When you are lost, alone
Maybe the one who is waiting for you
Will prove untrue - then what will I do?
Maybe you'll sit and sigh
Wishing that I were near - then,
Maybe you'll ask me to come back again
And maybe I'll say - maybe.

Date: 2002-08-15 07:10 am (UTC)Not *all* my music collection is Type O Neg :-) I was going to list all the music I have that's not melancholy, but then I realised it would be embarrassingly short. OTOH, there's plenty of melancholy that's not goth. Springsteen, Dylan, Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry, and Peter Gabriel all have a place in my collection. Along with the Inkspots, who I stole from Rey.
For some reason, melancholy music makes me happy.
Lyrics are a bit spiteful and vicious for my taste
Mmm? I wouldn't have called it spiteful, more... wistful. Singer hoping that one day she'll miss him as much as he's missing her. Anybody who's been in the position of hopelessly yearning dreams of turning the tables, I think. (Not saying it's _healthy_, mind you, but then I don't know any music that is.)
Vicious, now... Nick Cave & Sisters of Mercy get very nasty indeed. And Tom Waits, in his own quirky way.
