Visited the consulate yesterday & renewed my passport, rather less painful than I was expecting from my dealings with their phone menu system. (I still wish horrible justice upon the genius who thought making people wait for a URL to be spelled out, twice, before allowing them to leave a message that wouldn't be answered anyway.) Looked like a very long queue for visas, but Citizen Services was quick (at least, once I got past the security). While I'm being organised, will renew my other passport this week.

After that, I stopped by a shop in town for [livejournal.com profile] reynardo's anniversary present, which is one of those things that just sits there in your hand whispering "Throw me through a plate-glass window!" I was weak and gave it to her last night, since she'll be away on the actual day and because otherwise I would have succumbed to temptation and played with it myself.

The rain it raineth, on and on. I hope some of it's falling in the reservoirs this time; we're running pretty low at the moment.

Did more model work last night. Assembled most of the lovely trebuchet [livejournal.com profile] silverblue and [livejournal.com profile] brandtotter gave me as a birthday present :-) Some of the pieces didn't want to fit together (insert standard GW complaining here) but with a little bit of DIYing I think I can not only fix that problem, but actually make the arm capable of movement. Maybe even hand-build the sling assembly with cloth or leather so it can be loaded & unloaded. I don't think it'll quite be up to Real Flinging Action, alas. I have a growing stack of models in the "assembled and awaiting putty/filler" pile; will have to get on with some actual painting again some time soon.

Watched the Tod Browning/Bela Lugosi Dracula. I think I've seen most of it in bits and pieces, but never watched the whole thing before, and after seeing it I have just one question:

Armadillos?!?

Edit: Oh, and this is rather weird. Thanks once again to [livejournal.com profile] malloc1024.

I love that part of the movie. You may recall Kim Newman's subtle tribute to this in Anno Dracula - I believe he included armadillos in the Tower of London.
