Spent a lovely Anzac Day long weekend in Melbourne relaxing and schemichatting with friends. We spent Saturday fanging around the Dandenongs with [livejournal.com profile] cipherfunk and then sat around with insane people watching Father of the Pride to the point where [livejournal.com profile] silverblue hurt herself laughing. Sunday, dropped by Mind Games and bought the Big Book O' Tentacles and half a dozen assorted figures, then on to combined birthday party for [livejournal.com profile] shadow_5tails and, er, somebody whose LJ nick I don't know, if they have one, then on to see Umanee perform at Barbukka. I was dozing a bit (it was rather warm and a bit stuffy), but Umanee were lovely and I look forwards to hearing more of them.

Monday, we drove up to Phillip Island with [livejournal.com profile] brandtotter and [livejournal.com profile] silverblue to watch the fairy penguins coming ashore. Penguins were cute, although outnumbered by tourists, many of whom seemed unable to grasp the "no cameras" and "no leaning over the barrier to shake the bush that penguin is standing in to make it move for your amusement" rules. We were good and sat there huddled together for warmth, occasionally shrieking "Tekeli-li!" at the penguins because it had to be done. Did not, alas, get time to plot with [livejournal.com profile] silverblue and [livejournal.com profile] brandtotter out of my players' hearing; another time, I guess, probably over LJ.

Caught up briefly with [livejournal.com profile] lordstorm, and then went to bed rather late for a 4:30 am start this morning - bleah. As usual, Melbourne lovely place full of lovely people.

Why are cameras forbidden?

Flashes disturb the penguins (they come ashore at night), and people forget to turn them off - not that you'd be likely to get a good picture without a flash in that lighting anyway. Even with the ban, there were a lot of people taking flash photos when we got there, though by the time the penguins actually showed the rangers had talked to most of them.

Being more precise, I don't think cameras themselves are actually banned, just using them.
