...the state of mind in which you've just completed one chunk of programming, and it's an hour before you're due to go home, but you know that if you try to get started on the next bit and leave it part-done you'll spend more time tomorrow trying to remember how the bit you wrote today works than you'd gain from that hour's work?

Oh, that's right. It's called 'blogging'.

There a phrase for it. "Spare time to get the code documented"
I hit the same thing yesterday, and spent the hour polishing and formatting my code so anyone can pick it up and understand it. Of course if you document well as you go along, then it's definately blogging time.
