Dog-Or has a new fashion accessory. It's a little LED strobe that clips to his collar and flashes red and white. The idea of this is to improve safety when he's out walking at night, and so if we let him off the leash we can see where he's gone.
We took him down to a local park and let him run. As usual he was away immediately, and it was dark enough that we couldn't see the dog - just the light flashing on and off, and zipping to and fro at an astonishing speed. It was indescribably silly, like watching a will-o-wisp on crack.
Moving this week. I spent much of yesterday transferring our CD collection into carrying cases, so the boxes can go into storage somewhere and we'll have that much more space in our living quarters. I'm a music junkie, and it shows; by the time I reached the end of the first 120-disc case, I was only up to Crowded House. But then, so many of the goth standards start with 'C' - Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, Johnny Cash, Cure, Creatures, Concrete Blonde...
Incidentally, we have some duplicates. If anybody in a position to grab 'em is interested, they're welcome to the following:
Siouxsie and the Banshees: Peepshow.
Peter Gabriel: Peter Gabriel. (III, I think, or possibly II. How many self-titled albums does one man need?)
Hunters & Collectors: Collected Works.
The Cure: Faith.
Ministry: Psalm 69.
Have been trying to finish up a couple of models before we move - I've been distracted by various things, and haven't done a lot of painting lately. My Werewolf Chieftain has been mostly-finished for about six months now, just waiting for me to get around to the fiddly bits... but I did at least finish two yesterday.
One was an eagle; I tried a bunch of things, but she ended up looking rather dull. I have a couple more eagles around, and next time I'm going to try a photoref in the hope of making things more interesting. Especially if I get hold of this fellow.
The second is the Sultan (for those who've met Budūr, this would be her absent father, from the bloodline described here). I only meant for him to be a side project to distract me when I wanted a break from some bigger ones, but I ended up having quite a bit of fun with him.
After I'd finished painting him I looked at my work and counted twenty-three different paints and three inks. (A better painter could probably have achieved the same effects with far fewer; mixing paints isn't my favourite thing, so I use a different pot for every shade where I can).
The most frustrating bit was the eyes. I got to a stage where each of them worked on its own, but they didn't work together. I liked the left eye better, so I redid the right eye half a dozen times, but I never managed to get it to work with the left. (I was seriously considering giving him an eye-patch, I was that frustrated :-) So in the end I redid the left instead, and got a match. He looks a little bug-eyed now, but at least they're both looking in the same direction. Maybe he's just received the bill for his robes.
Oh, and thanks to
reynardo who told me "You're going to hate me for saying this, but the eyes don't work together." Which I knew, but was in denial about, because I was getting so fed up with repainting eyes. If it hadn't been for her criticism I'd probably have left him looking wall-eyed instead of getting it right.

Date: 2004-06-06 11:58 pm (UTC)I must say it's weird seeing Johnny Cash referred to as a "goth standard" - I don't think that'll ever make sense to me :)
