sclerotic_rings, an amusing post on ID from Kung Fu Monkey. (His post on the National Missile Defence System is also good.)

elynne, this rather good post about the reality of 'supporting our troops': "But you know who's going to be cleaning up the MESS that this has left us with? Liberals. The touchie feelie weenies. People who believe that it's -wrong- for the little guy in the military to get shafted in his aftercare because the government needs to find ways to cut costs on an increasingly expensive war. People who believe that telling someone with PTSD to just "suck it up soldier" isn't humane or effective. People who believe in therapy and compassion, who understand that having tons of military families living with someone who's dealing with untreated PTSD is more of a threat to the "sanctity of marriage" and the "stability of the family" than all the gay marriages in the world."
And, the new Senators who were elected last year are finally sitting, and showing their stuff. I was pretty unhappy to see the Coalition get a one-seat majority in the Senate, but it looks as if the holder of that one seat might yet give them a few headaches. I've never had much time for the Nationals, let alone the Queensland Nationals, but anybody who refuses to pander to groups like Family First and can get into a 'near physical clash' with Bill Heffernan can't be all bad.
