In a universe full of shrapnel, insidious bio-toxins, flame weapons and acid-spitting monstrosities, why is it that the oldest and most experienced Space Marines - some of whom have survived literally centuries of battle - are the ones most prone to going into battle without their helmets?

If you have plans beyond the next combat, hold a picture of a loved one, or bear information critical to the outcome of the war. You are going to die and no force in creation will be able to stop this.
