(This only ever seems to happen when I haven't shaved for a day or, as in this case, two.)

AFAIK he didn't realise it (we already had a waiter, he was just checking to make sure we were being looked after). I usually try not to embarrass people more than absolutely necessary on that one, which often means not bothering to correct them.

Dad is frequently refered to as "the lady" over the phone at work. He only corrects customers if he thinks it will be funny.

It still happens to me occasionally - and I've had a beard for years. If they'd only seen me from behind I could sort of understand it, but the last case of mistaken gender came from a waiter who was looking me in the face!
