In Melbourne. We went to see Wunderkammer this morning (yay fossils! yay taxidermy! yay antique scientific/medical equipment!), dropped by

mordwen's pool party, and then went to see the Australian Synchrotron at Clayton. We stood on the balcony looking at shiny machinery and inhaling the SCIENCE!

Migraine the other day. Started around 2:30 pm with the usual visual symptoms - I was just finishing a job application when I noticed the telltale 'dazzle' in the middle of my field of vision. Finished up, chugged two Neurofen and got a neck massage, then went to lie down in the hope of averting a full-blown headache.

I think I snoozed for about an hour before the headache arrived (would rate at about a 7), so I'm not sure whether previous measures helped delay it or not. Too ouchy to sleep, so I sloped off to

silverblue and

brandtotter's place for the air conditioning. Tried a glass of Coke (caffeine works for some people's migraines, never figured out whether it helps mine) but I think what gave the most relief was pressing an ice-pack directly against the back of my neck, alternating with the forehead & temples. (I know they're not supposed to be used directly on bare skin, but it felt much much MUCH better that way.) It gave me a different sort of ow to concentrate on and the migraine gradually died away; the headache part had gone by around 7 pm, although I felt a bit woozy the rest of the evening and the base of my skull is still making threatening noises at me.
