Via [livejournal.com profile] silmaril, fascinating story here about an engineer facing... well, I wouldn't really call it a *difficult* decision, but certainly a very unwelcome one. What do you do when you realise the building you've designed is fatally flawed and could collapse some time in the next couple of decades?

I remember seeing an interview with that guy. I wonder if nowadays something like that happened again every party would be as frank and work together as well.

I give the guy credit for the wise decision of owning up to the error. I've found this goes a long way in dealing with others in business.

If one was cynical one would note the reference to correcting the problem in connection with the "engineer for the world trade centre". Mind you, the stats on the risks for that guy were probably not as clear cut.

Obviously, you sneak into the building and sabotage the faulty bracing, so that it looks like foul play and not your design error that caused the building to fail when it eventually collapses.

Oh, wait, I think that's the sociopathic answer. Damn it.
