(I thought I'd posted about this earlier this morning, but I can't see it... maybe I closed the tab before posting, or something.)

After a month of being jerked around by the delivery company, we finally got a working exercise machine yesterday. (I feel like such a yuppie.) I have trouble with high-impact exercise (jarring makes my spine v. unhappy) and the whole "it's dark out and I don't want to drive to the swimming pool, and it's boring doing laps" factor makes it attractive to have something I can do at home, inside, any time, watching TV or listening to music. So I did about 30 minutes on it last night - I'll probably have sore knees later tonight, but it was pretty comfortable at the time.

And then this morning I got up, ambled out into the kitchen, arched my back, felt something hard in my upper spine, arched a bit more, and something went SNAP. I've been generally sore and tense up there for months; my chiropractor has been working on bits and pieces, but it always seemed to go out again, and there must have been something at the root of it he wasn't getting. I'd been putting up with that nagging background ache for long enough that I'd forgotten how my back is supposed to feel.

I've been wandering around all day feeling light-headed and happy. Even being called in to give a scientific opinion on somebody's advertising copy couldn't break my good mood. I feel more relaxed right now than I have done in months, without that constant tension.

*bliss*

Edit: And Girl Genius has just updated. Double bliss!

Oooh, hooray for spine being back in palce. Bliss indeed.

So... What sort of exercise amchine? Because yes, for pretty much the same reasons, I'm looking for something for home. Was thinking exercise bike but partly that's because I'm not sure what the other options are and review from people who actually have something is a good thing :)

One of these. Obviously I've only had it for a day, but I like it so far. It lets me exercise standing up (I spend more than enough time sitting already), and you can exercise the arms as well if you want by grabbing onto those upright bars and pushing/pulling along with your feet. It's almost silent, which is a big plus.

Oooh, speccy :) I knew it was onlay a day but even first impressions can be sueful :) Quiet is definitely a factor, and one oft he probles I ahd with concept of an exercise bike was that I'd like to get some upperbody strength too. Thanks :)

BTW, I'll just add a strong rec against getting it via Leisure World. I bought through Rebel Sports, but Leisure World handled actual delivery & supply, and they were atrocious. Delivered it, found out during assembly one of the parts was defective, said they'd come back with the part, went away, did nothing until I called them nine days later, decided they didn't have any spares and would have to order it from overseas and it'd take four weeks (no apologies offered for delay or anything), discovered (after getting a blast from the Rebel Sports manager) that they did have another of the same model they could deliver instead, took a week longer than they said they would to do that, and screwed up the delivery times *twice* so Adam ended up handling the final delivery because there were no adults in the house when they finally came over.

Said recommendation has been duly noted. Ta.
I gathered you were unimpressed from the original post, but this is beyond the par.

Very unimpressive.

You know that if you had said you bought an exercise machine that looked like this you'd be expecting visitors very soon ...

Oh, how marvellous. So glad to hear that your back's settling at last.

It is strange when you can't remember what it's like to have things feel right, isn't it? Just don't damage it overdoing things too soon - your muscles will need time to adjust, particularly with a chronic issue.

Mind you, I laugh gently at your exercise machine. "Motivational display," indeed. *snerk*
