If you were anything like me as a kid, you read your share of comics and snickered a bit at Wonder Woman. You have to feel sorry for the author who created her back in the '40s and didn't foresee how modern audiences would react to a heroine who fought evil by tying people up with a lasso, eh?

Yes, well... and more here and here.

(I still think the 'lie detector' is one of the most pernicious pieces of junk science to come out of the 20th century, and I'm not a great believer in utopian theories, but anybody who can negotiate a royalties deal like that can't be totally naive...)

I used to ask him that, back before I realized I really didn't want to know.

Oh yes, I borrowed a Wonder Woman Encyclopedia from the library a few years ago and was amazed by some of the scenes that regularly appeared back in the 1940s. Some very... interesting scenes. (Not to mention that Paradise Island apparently had a bunch of giant kangaroos that the Amazons used instead of horses - there was even a picture of one making an interplanetary leap.)

Hey, whatever works. As long as they were all happy with the arrangement...
