Woo, I made ILLSOTW again.

[livejournal.com profile] asagwe and [livejournal.com profile] shadow_5tails have been staying with us this weekend. They got in on Thursday night, and I took Friday off, so we fanged around town visiting a puppet shop in the Rocks and grabbing new miniatures at Tin Soldier. (Calair's arm keeps coming off, and I've regretfully decided that rather than continue glueing it back on I'm going to have to do a new figure.)

Speaking of miniatures [livejournal.com profile] da_norvegicus wanted a new figure for his character Maria. Because, and I'm so proud of him, he has decided that the chainmail bikini & chainmail loincloth on the current figure do not constitute "sensible armour". (He'd been planning to add armour to the figure with putty, but I persuaded him it was easier to start with the right armour and modify the weapons than start with the right weapons and modify the armour.)

We introduced Asagwe and Shadow5tails to Wafflers, and took [livejournal.com profile] waitingman along for a second time. It was a pretty characteristic mix of speeches: some good, some groanworthy. A couple of people there seem to have aged noticeably in the last couple of months; hope they're OK. After that we dragged [livejournal.com profile] waitingman back to our place along with our guests, and talked & listened to music until people fell asleep.

Saturday, a bit more shopping (picked up BBB), and then we went to see the Lion King stage show. It was pretty good, especially the puppets and costumes; they'd gone for 'evocative' rather than 'realism', and it worked nicely. Mufasa looked awfully familiar, which made more sense after noticing in the programme that we'd seen him before as Captain Typho. Highlights: the antelopemobile, the hyenas, and the vanishing waterhole.

After that we went off to a video arcade and Ratboy had his first ever go of DDR and the drum-machine version of the same. Scarily good, really :-)

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] reynardo's 40th party! This involved Dead Things on a Spit, and we had lots of food, and all the guests brought more food. John made the biggest chocolate cake I've ever seen, and I'm not sure I'll ever eat again. The rain obligingly held off until after we'd eaten and there were few enough guests to fit inside.

[livejournal.com profile] asagwe treated us all to the musical version of LotR, which was hilarious. We repaid the favour by introducing people to 'Being John Malkovich'; I'd forgotten just how weird that movie is.

And back to work today, because I didn't realise [livejournal.com profile] asagwe and [livejournal.com profile] shadow_5tails weren't leaving until tonight. Will try to get much done this morning, so I can head home v. early.

Oh, and I got Girl Genius #12. About which, all I'll say is: I love Bangladesh Dupree, and the "Who's in charge here?" exchange is classic Foglio.

Oh, I so loved that exchange, though to be honest, I've generally found almost any Foglio is good Foglio (though I'm sure somebody can disprove this :)
