Pleasant things

Ganked from RoO, I rather liked the attitudes expressed by the Carmelites of Indiana on the question of whether a certain politician should be refused Communion for his pro-choice views (click 'Previous Topics', then 'Communion Ban'):
In one of the most consoling passages of the Christian scriptures, Jesus is quoted as saying that "no one who comes to me will I ever reject." ... It would be as if one were to take upon themselves the role of Christ’s "bouncers," a terribly arrogant role if I dare say so.
If only Cardinal Pell were capable of absorbing the same moral. This, IMHO, is one of the great tragedies of the Catholic Church: so many of its members are compassionate, enlightened, intelligent people, labouring under the deadweight of a fossilised hierarchy.
In other news, a rather cute animation (Flash required) about the differences between Italians and the rest of Europe. Though possibly rather too charitable to the rest of Europe.
