The horror!

Not fond of people who turn their headphones up so loud everybody around them can hear every word of whatever they're listening to.

Half an hour with Bryan Adams, that's the special hell there... seriously, when you look back on your life in twenty-odd years and remember how you lost your hearing, what are you going to tell yourself?

(Wikipedia tells me that Bryan Adams is an ambassador for hearing loss awareness. The irony.)

I wonder what the etiquette is for that.

We had lunch with my aunt on the weekend. (I still find this occasionally disconcerting - there's so much of my mother about her, and the resemblances keep poking at spots in my brain. But I digress.)

She mentioned an incident that happened to relatives of ours travelling in the USA. They went to a popular restaurant in New York (?) and were told it was very crowded, so did they mind sharing a table? They said no, that's fine, and they were seated with a black couple. They made introductions, and discovered that oddly enough, they had the same surname (Dyett).

On discussing family histories, it turned out that this wasn't a coincidence...
