Went to see the Triffids (+ friends), Paul Kelly, and Leonard Cohen in concert yesterday, out near Bowral.
reynardo won't tell me how much she paid for the tickets, but it was definitely worth it.
Triffids were in good form, and I especially liked 'Lonely Stretch' - it's probably my favourite of theirs, and Steve Kilbey was a good guest singer. But it left me wanting to hear Nick Cave sing it, because the band had two of the other Bad Seeds, and it really showed in the music.
Paul Kelly - not bad, but I didn't find it very memorable compared to the others that day.
Leonard Cohen - absolutely brilliant. As he put it... "I haven't performed on stage in fifteen years. I was sixty. Just a kid with a crazy dream." For all that he's touring because his manager stole his retirement savings, he really seemed to be enjoying himself, and he was full of energy. He skipped on and off stage several times during the encores, and at one point he threatened to stage-dive. The band were also very good, and I was pleasantly surprised to see Sharon Robinson had come on the tour. It was... oddly warm and fuzzy, really.
If Leonard Cohen can be happy, there's hope for us all :-)
