Back from a weekend in sunny Melbourne. We flew down with
mr_figgy and his father on Thursday. In the course of the weekend:
* Went to see a recruiter on Friday (Monash's Engineering faculty is a real rabbit warren, one of those "out of space, add another building" beasts common on university campuses).
* Visited various family members (grandmother has had a fall recently - she's recovering, but not clear whether she'll be able to go back to the retirement home).
* Caught up with my brother and his girlfriend (and their dogs).
* Went to Nemesis. Insert usual grumbling about smoke here, but it was fun, especially when the DJ played 'Dance Magic' and hordes of excitable happygoths swarmed onto the dance floor.
* Drove out to Healsville. Weather was against us, so did not visit the animal sanctuary, but we stopped at a couple of wineries and picked up a bottle of Noble One, which is one of the very few alcoholic drinks that I'll go out of my way for. And we got to see a stand of eucalyptus regnans doing what they do best, i.e. being very tall indeed.
* Visited the Melbourne Museum, which had some pretty neat stuff, especially the bugs exhibit.
* Socialised with many of the usual suspects. Forced
silverblue and
brandtotter to watch some of This Darkness, to their lasting horror.
* Slept, occasionally.
* Drove Byakko mad with the magic that is SHOELACE!!!1!1!!
Our guests are now off to Adelaide, and
da_norvegicus goes back to school tomorrow, so I guess I'm home alone once more. Still job-hunting...
