Iyad Allawi, the new Prime Minister of Iraq, pulled a pistol and executed as many as six suspected insurgents at a Baghdad police station, just days before Washington handed control of the country to his interim government, according to two people who allege they witnessed the killings.

- After hearing rumours of these executions, McGeough used personal connections to seek out the two sources he used for this story; he did not rely on volunteers, making it unlikely that this was a plant.
- Neither of these two sources was aware McGeough was talking to the other one; both gave detailed and largely consistent eyewitness accounts.
