Misc: vampires, weekend, etc
Oct. 9th, 2003 09:46 amMmm. Vampires.
Went to
sandypawozbun and
usagi_ozbun's housewarming on weekend. Rather astounded to find that only costs extra $10 each way to transport Dog-Or the Wonder Spaniel, which is cheaper than boarding, so he came for the ride in his brand new carry-cage.
Sandypaw and Usagi have a lovely big house in the country. V. jealous. Dog-Or got to run around outside and splash about in the pond and roll in dead things, in between being fussed over by people and barking at new dogs, so he was very pleased with himself. The rest of us did festive gothy things and plotted evil for S&U's wedding. Saw many other Melbourne caballists, which is always nice, although they were only there for about a day. They must all come to our housewarming next month.
Plotted gaming-related evil with
silverblue.
Note to self: next time, book return flight that does not involve getting self and friends-with-car up at 3 a.m., even if it costs a bit more.
Got home, slept. Painted some figures, for the first time since the move. Oh, and happy accident when painting a treant. One of the things that occasionally causes me unpleasant surprises when thinning paints is that some of them separate into different colours of pigment when thinned, producing unexpected and undesirable effects. In this case, however, what was only meant to be a first coat separated in just the right way, creating a really nice effect of brown bark on the outside and greenish wood inside.
Then noticed that Mr. Treant had some shelf fungi on him, and we just happened to have *exactly* the right shade of bright orange for them. I love it when a lack-of-plan comes together. Finished painting; next, will do the base and add some foliage. Should look very pretty when finished.
Spent ages debugging what should have been v. simple rectangular-to-polar coordinate system conversion. Made extra-frustrating by the fact that there are about a million websites out there offering formulae for said conversion, and they are ALL WRONG IN THE SAME WAY, because ATAN IS NOT THE INVERSE FUNCTION OF TAN. Dammit. Still, is now working AFAICT.
Called parents to beg money, because until old place gets rented out and/or Rey finds part-time work our expenses exceed our income, which is Bad Thing. Parents interpreted recent purchase-of-car transaction in such a way that they owed us money, which... well, I'm not complaining. Don't like begging for money, nor being unable to pay off my credit card in full each month, so will be much happier once we're finished with the old place.
Should also get a fair bit of money back when tax return is submitted, though am dreading doing this. Tax time makes my brain hurt.
Ah well, plenty of things to look forwards to. D&D game on Saturday, housewarming in a few weeks, and December coming up...
