Nonoxynol-9

Apologies to those who don't want to hear about sex-related matters, but this will probably be of interest to some of my LJ friends.

Nonoxynol-9 is a spermicide commonly included with condoms, and it's long been recommended as an additional precaution against the possibility of HIV infection. However, a trial conducted in Africa suggests that using Nonoxynol-9 may in fact INCREASE the risk of HIV transmission:
