Weekend and Moving

Week before last we'd looked at a possible rental place. The owner had just bought it - it was rather dilapidated - and when we visited, he and half a dozen mates were busy ripping out the carpets, tiles, kitchen, etc etc. What he wanted for it was reasonable (by Sydney standards, i.e. only slightly more than half my paycheck), so we decided we'd come back in a week's time and see how the renovations had progressed. In the meantime we found he was advertising the place elsewhere for $50 more per week, so we decided to make sure we were in a position to give him cash immediately if we decided we wanted it.
Friday, picked up Asagwe from the airport, then drove over to see the place. V. impressed by how it had progressed in a week; while I'd be hesitant about buying such a place, it was in reasonable shape for a short-term rental. Landlord only wants a six-month lease, since he's planning to knock it down and build something new after that (it's an old weatherboard place, looks to be the last of the original houses left on Pozieres St - judging by the street names, the area was settled shortly after WWI).
This works reasonably well with our plans, and means he has no problem with us hammering nails into the walls or keeping Dog-Or the Wonder Spaniel inside, so we decided to take the place. Signed paperwork, handed over bond money, tightened belts, agreed to pick up keys Sunday p.m. Plan is for me to stay in the new place for the next two weeks while we ferry stuff down and get things like phone service sorted, will probably have Big Heavy Stuff Moving Day next weekend.
Then drove into Sydney and browsed second-hand bookshop. Discovered old Ravenloft modules (may buy for source of ideas & background when have more money - Rey, stay away from these!) Also, excellent-condition copy of 1st Ed. "Deities and Demigods", the version with Cthulhu Mythos. Alas, shop owner had previously sold another copy of same for $200, so wasn't offering it at any price we could afford.
Picked up

Back down mountain on Sunday afternoon. V. high winds, nearly blowing car off road, and leaving lots of bits of tree all over the streets. Stopped by house to pick up keys, then reluctantly dropped our guests off at the airport, on the way noting more impressive wind damage and things blowing around airport that one would not want impacting on a plane. Still, they got home OK after some delays.
*sniffle* Wanna move to Melbourne.
Instead, settled in for first night at new place while Rey drove up mountain. *sniffle* Have started discovering things place is missing, such as mirrors in bathrooms and workable power point in main bedroom. Will rig up sheets over windows tonight so that entire neighbourhood is not treated to alarming spectacle before breakfast when I emerge from my shower. Will be seeing Rey daily, but missing her at night.
Oh, and nearly forgot most important part of weekend: Shaving Dog-Or. I threw him in the bath on Saturday and hacked about a kilogram of fur off the beast while he looked at me pathetically; then Rey and

Edit
Slept in till 8 am today, because I could. Took bus in to work, took 15 minutes plus 5 minutes waiting-for-bus, as opposed to usual two-and-a-half hours. I could learn to like this.
Managed, after repeated calls, to get through to Telstra and arrange for phone to be connected. Unfortunately, trying to get electricity connected in my name results if "if you're not one of the ten thousand people who lost power in yesterday's gales, call back tomorrow" recording. Annoying, as electricity at this place was connected but is due to cut off today... maybe they'll be too busy to do that? Well, I have a torch if I need it.
