We went out with [livejournal.com profile] sarin_girl and [livejournal.com profile] waitingman to catch Jason Webley again, doing a solo gig on his last night in the country.

It was a very intimate performance, and by 'intimate' I mean the venue really was somebody's lounge room (not a particularly big lounge room) and they squeezed a bit over sixty people in before giving up. There were still a lot of people waiting outside, so JW went out and gave them a few songs by way of apology for turning them away. Those of us who'd made it on time sat on the floor and tried not to think about what would happen if the candles on the stairway started a fire. (My plan was basically "let a few other people jump off the balcony first so I'll have a soft landing".)

As it happened, the stairway did not catch fire and we had a wonderful time. He played guitar and accordion and performed a mix of his own songs and others. (I rather liked his version of 'Holding Out For A Hero', which was done on the accordion and involved tractors.) Very nice guy, lovely music, would definitely see a third time (hopefully somewhere with fire exits).

Edit: [livejournal.com profile] waitingman reminds me that one of the other highlights was 'No Woman No Fly', based on hearing very enthusiastic drunk guys mangle Bob Marley in an anonymous South American mountain town.
