Following on from here... the wedding day itself. I should've written this lot up earlier, while it was fresh in my mind; I might remember a bit more when we get the photos uploaded.
We breakfasted in the guest house, and chatted with a lady who told us about a greatn-grandfather of hers who'd been hanged for piracy after the War of 1812. ("Well, he was supposed to be a privateer on the American side. Only he didn't always attack British ships, and when the war ended he didn't give it up.")
Incidentally, the guest house was really nice. Good rooms, excellent food, friendly hosts. It's the 'Tolland Inn', if you're ever in that part of the world.
After breakfast we walked over to the wedding/reception site with
mdsteele47 and others, and got stuck into the garden, which needed raking and removal of poison ivy. Then we took
jazzmasterson home to collect stuff, and made sure he ate lunch before we parted ways and went a-shopping for supplies. And 'surprise', too. We got back to the guest house about... 4 pm?
Since JazznAmber would be walking back after the wedding, there wasn't much point in decorating their car, so
mdsteele47 deputised us to decorate their room instead. This was made vastly easier by the fact that they GAVE US THE KEY, which gives you some idea of how distracted they must have been by then. So we showered, got our clothes together &
notasquirrel's, and set about making balloon bunnies with the aid of, I think,
anwar_jones.
In the middle of this operation
jazzmasterson charged into our room to grab the marriage paperwork and charged out again, oblivious to the half-dozen balloon bunnies we'd made by that point. Having been married myself, I know exactly what *that's* like. We waited until they left for the art center, then snuck upstairs and renovated their quarters with balloon bunnies, pink stuff, a My Little Pony cardboard centerpiece, glowsticks in the canopy of the bed, and extremely tasteful books of relationship advice tucked under their pillows.
(
jazzmasterson got the one with helpful hints like "You don't want a woman. A woman is your mother or your sister. You want a girl."
harliquinn got a book on Getting Your Man By Hypnosis, which from what I read of it seemed to be things like "teach him to associate you with baseball". All this because Rey and I couldn't bring ourself to buy "Mars and Venus in Love".)
Then we trotted off to the wedding with Buzzy in his finery. I can't say much about the service itself - it was short and to the point, which is no bad thing - but Jazz and Amber both looked very happy to be married. They were snappily dressed (yay Antons!) and the music, both for the wedding and the reception afterwards, was well chosen. I'd forgotten that Journey of the Sorcerer isn't just the HHGTTG theme, it's actually a pretty good piece in its own right :-)
And then the reception. People were friendly and well-behaved (nobody even punched the caterer, but I won't go into that now), the music continued to be good, and I got to see
jazzmasterson and
harliquinn in that post-wedding state that sits somewhere between "happy" and "grah where did my brain go?"
harliquinn in particular was looking MUCH happier than the last time we'd seen her, and it's good to see that happen to a dear friend.
I'd say that we talked to a whole bunch of friends and family, but honestly, what mostly happened is that they came over to admire
notasquirrel while we told them about him and his travels. Then a date showed up for him - a squirrel called 'Nutsy' (same name as the *last* one he dated, IIRC...) who brought a bag of cashews with her. And there were many photographs. Then two bunnies arrived, and there were more photographs, and I'm still waiting to hear how much it's worth for us to suppress those.
We did a little bit of dancing, and then toddled off to bed early because we were both v. tired after much travelling and stuff.
In the morning we had another delicious breakfast at the guest house with the happy couple & attendants, and then drove over to brunch at
jazzmasterson's parents' house. The quantity of delicious food on offer far exceeded my capacity to eat it, alas. We socialised some more - Rey talked to Jazz's nephew, who is an adorable and bright young fellow - and then all too soon it was time to go, because we had a long drive that afternoon.
So many wonderful people in my life, so little time to spend with them. Really must get on with Operation Win The Lottery And Kidnap 'Em All.
