Bad Movies
Aug. 17th, 2008 02:03 pmWe had a Bad Movie Night last night - went rather well despite small turnout. Stuff we watched:
- First half of the Star Wars Holiday Special, thanks to
quatranoctal. The experience was somewhat impaired due to the somethingth-generation-copy nature of the video and our TV's dislike of NTSC, but it was still very... something. And by 'something' I mean 'woeful'.
- 'The Calamari Wrestler', fast-forwarding over some of the talky bits (Japanese, no subtitles). Most of the plot can be figured out from context - giant squid becomes pro-wrestling champion of Japan, one woman suspects his mysterious past, romance ensues, then a challenger appears, squid must wrestle his inner demons as well as his opponents, then something involving a mantis shrimp - but the details are still a bit murky.
- 'El Vampiro Teporocho', selected highlights. Spanish, no subtitles, but the basic plot seems to be: scientists try to fire Dracula into space on a rocket, it crash-lands in Mexico, he goes looking for romance and tequila. Seems to be a sequel to a previous movie. For some reason, the actor shown on the cover isn't actually in the film, except as a photograph.
- 'The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra', intentionally-bad homage to B-movies. Lots of good lines and stock footage here.
- 'Plan Nine From Outer Space'. Needs no introduction, but watching them back-to-back made us realise just how much 'Lost Skeleton' is poking at 'Plan Nine'.
