Friday the Thirteenth

We went out with workmates of Rey's and assorted hangers-on today. There was a big party on for the opening of something-or-other, and we'd been told there was a Friday 13th/zombie theme or some such, we spent quite a while beforehand working on the makeup. I had a nail sticking out of my head, Rey had spectacular burns,da_norvegicus had a nasty jagged cut down the side of his face, and so on. Things I learned from this evening:
1. Makeup wax sticks to your fingers better than it sticks to anybody's face, no matter how much talc you use.
2. If five people with horrific facial injuries are walking down the street with one guy dressed up as a clown, the clown will get all the attention.
3. If you're going to spend an hour or two making people up for a fancy dress event, it's a good idea to be absolutely sure it really is a fancy dress event. Because being the only people there in zombie makeup is disappointing.
On our way back to the car, we had an odd moment. We were walking past a row of terrace houses, and I noticed a trickle of something along the ground. When I say 'trickle', it was about four feet long, and although the light wasn't great I could see that it was reddish and a bit too viscous to be water. The upstream end of the trickle lined up with the edge of the balcony overhead, and there was enough splatter to suggest it might have come from above... we called it in, and the police had a look, but apparently it had nothing to do with the balcony.
I'm still not sure what it was, but it doesn't sound as if it came from inside anybody, which is all for the best. Glad they didn't ask us to wait around, because we were still in makeup and that would've made for some odd explanations...
