With thanks to [livejournal.com profile] silmaril... embrace the wonder of the Devil Duckie Drive!

Swam 750m today. Go me. Will probably pay for it tomorrow.

Mardi Gras parade was today. For those not familiar with Sydney, Mardi Gras here is a GLBTetcetcetc pride celebration, culminating in a big march through the streets of Sydney. When it first started, police attacked the procession and arrested participants. Now, the NSW Police have their own float in the parade.

This year the parade was led by Monica Hingston, who recently wrote this letter. I can't think of a better choice than somebody who's given much of her life working for the poor and underprivileged and who has been with her partner for nearly twenty years.

All the same, although I actively dislike her cousin Cardinal Pell, and he will no doubt be discomfited by this... it's hard to take pleasure in that. No matter how much he annoys me, it's just one more time where this issue has driven a wedge between kin, and that is a shame.

Instead of watching the parade we were out at the Opera House tonight, getting drenched and seeing something called "Pandora 88". A sort of mime-dance-thingy performed by a couple of East Germans who spent most of the act in a glass box about five feet by five by eight. At one point we had invisible mimes in a visible box, which I guess is a change from the usual. Then they started playing hide-and-seek, still inside the box, and after that it got rather odd and I didn't really understand it. It was probably about sea-monkeys. Would probably have had a better chance of making sense of it if had not been dozing off after late nights and exercise.

Saw "Lost In Translation" outdoors last night, in Centennial Park - we picnicked with our friend Brendan and his partner. I rather enjoyed it, though a bit distracted by Ratboy's fidgeting.

At a Significant Emotional Moment just near the end of the film, there was a massive shooting star just above the screen. It was the biggest one I've ever seen, and at first I wasn't sure whether it was a plane exploding, it was so bright.

And, Talked To Parents tonight about housing stuff. Have been offered some money towards cost of new house, which am not about to refuse... so go them!
