The UN is currently investigating reports that the NSA spied on UN diplomats - in particular, those countries currently on the Security Council whose votes the USA is currently trying to woo.

This violates the Vienna Convention on treatment of diplomats:
http://www.un.org/law/ilc/texts/diplomat.htm (articles 22, 24, and 27). IIRC, when the UN was first being set up, concerns were raised that the host country might try exactly this sort of stunt, and the USA gave its solemn assurances that it would refrain from taking advantage of its status to spy on UN delegates.
And people still wonder why the rest of the UN is unwilling to take things from the USA on "trust". I'm beginning to wonder why the USA bothers to continue pretending to be part of the UN, when it has repeatedly made clear that it will only respect the UN as long as it gets unstinting compliance with its wishes.
At least Nixon had the decency to hire his own spies, rather than using government employees to do it.
