In a recent GQ article, Kate Winslet declares:

"What is sexy? All I know from the men I've ever spoken to is that they like girls to have an arse on them, so why is it that women think in orderto be adored they have to be thin? Very thin. I just don't understand that way of thinking. When I was 22 and Titanic had come out and I was a slightly more Marilyn Monroe-y shape, I just became aware that there hadn't really been anyone young out of this country that had a shape, and was becoming successful, for a long time. And because I, as a teenager, went through dieting, fat, thin, was very chubby as a child and was at a point where I thought, "My God," - I just couldn't believe my luck. I though, "My God, I did all of this... I've done this enormous great big film and look I'm not starving. Wow."

Only thing is, the accompanying photos and cover photo have been heavily digitally altered to make Winslet look much, much thinner than she actually is.

NO FUCKING WONDER we still have girls and women starving themselves to death trying to look like they're supposed to. (Not to mention many more who get to feel miserable and guilty because they don't starve themselves.)

In related news: Yesterday Rey, Adam, Tony, and I spent the day at Tin Soldier, doing a miniatures painting class. (Was v. impressed by and v. jealous of Adam's work on his character Andrew. Gorgeous drybrushing.)

All the other kids there were Warhamster players, ages 10-11. They asked us what game we played; Rey answered "Dungeons and Dragons", and the response was "What's that?"

*whimper*

One of them was painting a Slaaneshi champion riding a dragon. As we left, I had a look at it, and found myself wrestling with a dilemma. Although I don't particularly like the Warhammer miniatures (generalisation, plenty of exceptions) this kid had done a very good job on it. The champion looked ferocious; the dragon looked dangerous; both were well painted, highlights and shading and so forth. Except for one detail.

How *do* you tell a prepubescent child that women's nipples are not, in fact, bright bright red?
