S&H is extra...
Apr. 18th, 2002 03:23 pmUnrelated meanderings follow.
I've been trying to find a good pair of universal scissors (aka 'paramedic shears') for a while now. They're shears designed for first-aid use, cutting through seatbelts/boots/etc, with a tab that makes it easier to get them around the thing you want to cut without hurting the patient. Be handy for my first-aid kit etc. Looking at websites...
Company A sells the basic model, but you have to register to get a price. And there's no privacy policy... I don't think so.
Company B sells the basic model, for $3.50. This looks good... until I discover that shipping and handling adds another $16.50. They're in the same city as me!
Company C sells a high-quality, tougher model, for $20, plus $5 s&h.
Hmmm. Evidently 'market forces' are yet to take their course on Companies A & B. If I have to choose between paying for shipping and paying for quality, I know which I'm doing...
And next month, it's my high school ten-year reunion. (Grosse Pointe Blanke soundtrack, here I come...) I went to a very British-style grammar school, and I have a horrible suspicion many of my classmates will have grown up to be accountants and suchlike. (Nothing against accountants, I've known some great accountants, but doing it just because it's what people at your school do is no good thing.)
Practically nobody there will know what I do for a living, because I've made no particular effort to keep in touch. Should I make something up? Or just tell them I take eyeball deliveries
