(While it's hard to unequivocally blame any one event on global warming, summer maxima do seem to be on the increase; I feel fairly comfortable in saying that globabl warming is at least partly to blame for such things. And SUVs make a handy example of the gas-guzzling mentality that helped get us to this point.)
