I never understood the appeal of Che.

I don't know enough about South American politics to gauge his role there. 'Over here', though, I think he's mostly a convenient symbol for rebellion, a more political version of listening to Marilyn Manson to annoy your parents. If he hadn't existed, or hadn't had the advantage of a good photographer, somebody else would've been picked to fill the gap.
