For that matter, look how much whining there was during the Clinton era about Hillary; the idea of anybody who hadn't been directly elected having some influence over Presidential decisions made for a lot of political fodder. (Though I suspect it was also about denigrating Clinton's masculinity by casting Hillary as the real power behind the throne. I wonder if that backfired when the Lewinsky scandal blew up?)
