More on HPV

...and if I didn't manage to get you angry about the fanatics who think the HPV vaccination is a bad idea, maybe this will.

At times it goes a bit over the top - I don't think we have to put women on quite that much of a pedestal in order to see why protecting them from HPV is important - but I suspect a lot of that is the poster's anger speaking. Some things deserve anger.

If you believe premarital sex is always a bad idea, I'm not going to think less of you for holding that belief. You can live by it, you can attempt to persuade your children of it, and while they remain children you can even use some degree of parental coercion to prevent them from having it.

But the idea of deliberately endangering a child in the hope that it'll deter them from having sex (fat chance!) is nothing more than a genteel, First-World version of the African custom of 'circumcising' one's daughters with bits of broken glass. But at least in Africa, the perpetrators have to witness the blood and pain first-hand.

I agree. It's crazy. I've had several students approach me because their doctors have discovered pre-cancerous cervical cells, and in one instance I had a student tell me she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. These were all college students under 25.

Their kids eventually getting cancer versus their kids going to Hell.
From that perspective there really isn't a choice.

I'm as outraged as you are when it comes to this fantastic new vaccine.

*sigh* So we're still in the middle ages and illness is a punishment from god for your sins? Interesting. If they're not sinful, they won't become ill but if you protect them from illness, they'll become sinful but god won't be able to punish them then? So god isn't all powerful? Or the idea of possibly interfering with a vengeful god (cuz we wouldn't want a just one, nevermind compassionate or merciful) is sinful? So we should all just sit around letting bad things happen because we deserve it? Sorry, just seeing if I can figure out the illogic.
